This Week’s Finds

Statistical Tests of Distribution Similarity

Joshua introduced a problem originating from a research question on the distribution of black hole masses in the universe. The mathematical question centered around confidence testing of distribution models against observational data, and when a model could be rejected by the data. We discussed the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, as well as information-geometric ideas related to model testing.
